Three Stories, ©2016 by Suzann Thompson
Crochet, piecing, quilting, embellishment; vintage crochet pieces, cotton yarn and fabric, buttons.
The title, Three Stories, is about the three anonymous crafters who supplied the house-motif mat, the white doily which appears in the corners, and the hand-pieced quilt top I used in this wall hanging.
One of my goals in using vintage crochet in my art is first, to get it out of hiding. Doilies in a drawer are sad doilies. They need to be out where people can see them.
Another goal is to remind myself and others that people have been crafting and needleworking for generations. Because they didn’t always sign their work, we don’t necessarily know who made a certain doily or quilt. We should remember these people who continue to enrich our lives, even if we don’t know their names.
I blogged about Three Stories at www.textilefusion.com/bookblog/?p=1236.
Three Stories is available for purchase with delivery in November 2017. Please contact Suzann by email for a list of wall hanging prices.
