Knitting, crochet, piecing, quilting, embellishment; many different fibers, cotton fabric, buttons, beads.
Quilters often clean out and give away pieces of fabric or unfinished projects. This is how I came to own a long, skinny piece of patchwork, with a seed packet design. I ran across it numerous times when looking for other fabrics, until one day the long, tall piece of patchwork challenged me. “How about making a long, skinny quilt top, and I’ll be the back?” it seemed to say.
The seed packet design suggested a flower theme, and Red Vases began to take shape. I spent hours sewing crocheted flowers onto the quilt, while I listened to the audiobook The Three Body Problem, by Liu Cixin.
Red Vases is in a private collection.
